After reading Frederick Crew’s biography the analogue that came to mind of what Freud and psychoanalysis resemble is L. Ron Hubbard and Scientology, the principal difference being Freud’s ideas were vastly more influential.

I find it a perversely reassuring reminder that fraudulent ideas, ideologies, dogmas are always flowing in the collective mind but in time are debunked. Of course, what is not so reassuring is that eventuality can take place long after the civilisation that nurtured them has been destroyed.
